I just started watching the Netflix Meghan Markle show and it is wild. The neutral cashmere, reclaimed wood, blown out lighting and beach waves, oh my!! So much grabbing from the garden, mason jars, calligraphy, twine, and dried flower garnishes abound. She just made avocado toast in a blush linen button down and 2010 wants their Pinterest board back. If you get a chance to watch it please call me to discuss.
I have always been obsessed with the Royals. When I was little I used to put Princess Diana coffee table books on my Christmas list. I know it’s strange for a child but my mom humored me and Santa provided. (Thanks Mom!) I still have them in a box in my Amagansett basement with the rest of my teenage treasures. That has manifested itself into a Pinterest board I made seven years ago. I forgot about it until I started writing and I am bringing it back!! Some of her outfits are PERFECT for the weather warming up. A smart blazer with a good belt and a straight leg jean. A sweatshirt or long cardigan over work out clothes. It’s all just too good.
I think all my years at JCrew taught me how important it is to have a something a little “worn in”. I remember when the samples would arrive and the designers would need to “rough them up” before Jenna would review the line. Everything just looked better that way. I still think of her a lot when I get dressed and miss seeing her outfits everyday. She would never let us merchandise anything in the color teal (it is an awful color) and you could never put yellow and red together because it reminded her of McDonalds (again not wrong) So many random things I remember from my time there.
When I was growing up there used to be a flea market in Oceanside, Long Island, called “Gold Coast” and I would beg my mom to take me there to get used Levi’s. I still wear mostly used Levi’s and have a few different sources. I do a lot of trial and error on The Real Real (always hard to trust the sizing) and you need to try on many pairs to get the right fit. Some of my favorite pairs have come from vintage stores in Asia. I know buying American labels in Asia seems bizarre - but they are much less expensive and usually the length is perfect for me. My kids and husband think I am insane for dragging back pounds of denim but it’s a tradition now.
Last night when I was watching the Voice with my girls (strong recommend for a family show) someone performed “Every Little Step” by Bobbi Brown. How wildly poetic for my situation. Adam Levine, Michael Buble and I all started singing and dancing while sitting in our chairs and my daughters thought I was nuts. I always tell them that it’s cool to be weird.

If you don’t want to deal with the vintage deep dive this is a great sweatshirt.
To avoid the hassle of finding the right fit of a used pair - these are a good option that can give the same look. I like the ecru.
