There is no apartment I wanted more than the loft from the 80s sitcom “My Two Dads”. I was nine years old and thought that the car shaped couch was adulthood at its finest. The show was about a teenage girl who, after her mother's death, was sent to live with two of her mother's ex-boyfriends who were awarded joint custody of her.
One was a neurotic, responsible financial planner Dad (which I completely forgot was Paul Reiser from “Mad About You” until I googled the show). The other was a laid-back artist who sort of looked like George Michael and definitely gave Uncle Jesse vibes. After trying to make life work in their two different apartments, the financial planner decided to move downtown into the artist Soho loft so they could raise the twelve year old daughter together.
That downtown loft, with its raw brick walls and spiral staircase, became the blueprint for all my NYC dreams. I guess manifesting works (sort of) because while I don’t have a spiral staircase, I do live in a downtown loft with a Finance guy who loves to listen to George Michael.
The girl who played the daughter in My Two Dads was also in Step by Step which was another fantastic 90s show. I can still hear the theme song in my head and see the roller coaster from the opening credits. Suzanne Somers played the mom and Patrick Duffy played the dad and I remember wanting my parents to get divorced so I could get 3 older step brothers. LOL.
In honor of Dads, sons, step dads, husbands, brothers and step brothers I have put together a Men’s Shop filled with a mix of great items and special gifts for all the men in your life!
For those who celebrate - you have less than two weeks to secure your presents!
