Oprah, Ivory Cashmere and Nancy Meyers
One of the most important things that Oprah taught me beyond learning how to embrace self-acceptance (yawn) and prioritize well-being (gulp) is the importance of monochromatic dressing. In the early 2000s Oprah started wearing head to toe shades of one color and it was serving rich b%#*h energy.
When I was growing up in the 90s I used to watch The Oprah Winfrey show almost everyday at 4 o’clock. I would plop down on the couch after school and watch her interview survivors of tragedy who found their way back to joy. It is wild to think about because my kids don’t usually walk in the door until 5:30 on weekdays and they are certainly not watching Maya Angelou talk about her childhood trauma.
Part of me thinks that the world would be a better place if Oprah was back on the air, but I also think that her show may have been a gateway drug to all the trauma filled docuseries I enjoy today. My HULU and Netflix “for you” suggestions are a terrifying mix of psychological crime and cult documentaries.
I have a few friends that share this morbid curiosity and we often exchange show recommendations via text. Between the Karen Read and P Diddy trials I have thought about what would happen if law enforcement ever went through my texts. I would certainly be brought in for questioning based on my google search history.
Before things got dark I remember when “Something’s Gotta Give” came out and we were all introduced to the Nancy Meyers aesthetic. Amanda Peet was not yet married to Jon Hamm (lol) and Diane Keaton was running barefoot on the beach in white jeans and ivory cashmere. I was only 22 years old at the time and I was swooning over the wardrobe of a woman who was just starting her menopause journey.
The aesthetic of that movie had people knocking down their kitchen walls and throwing white slipcovers over their couches. I know Megan said she didn’t research the royal family when she was getting ready to marry H (nails on a chalkboard when I hear her call him “H”) but there is NO WAY her art director did not have Nancy Meyers swipe when they were doing the location scouting for her show. That distressed wood open shelving did not come out of nowhere.
Anytime I am at a loss for something to wear I always go back to wearing the same color head to toe and it immediately elevates any outfit. It just gives this “polished without seeming overdone” goodness.
In honor of Diane Keaton, Oprah and the imminent Memorial Day weekend I am pulling together some of my favorite all white, ivory and ecru looks with all the fixings.

I wore this to Easter and my mother made me take it off so she could try it on and she just bought one for herself. It is universally flattering and comes in many colors and lace too link here
Manolo Blahnik slide link here
I am a big believer in paying up for shoes. They elevate any outfit and they always fit - plus you get so many more wears than just a piece of clothing.

They just added this sweater in a “creamy” ivory color and it is summer beach perfection.

I learned about Me + Em two years ago when I got one of their cropped blazers in London. I like their edit and it doesn’t feel like what everyone else is wearing
