The Fisherman Aesthetic, Spring Sweaters & Weekend Totes
I absolutely love this time of year when the weather strikes that perfect balance between seasons. There is something magical about stepping outside and not immediately feeling assaulted by sweltering heat or bitter cold – just that gentle, welcoming air that makes you want to walk EVERYWHERE.
I am finally out of my walking boot and ankle brace, so everyday I walk a little bit further than the day before. I am on a strict sneakers protocol which has been an adjustment for me since I have always been a ballet flat and loafer girl. Thankfully the transitional weather and layering has helped disguise my sneaker diet and I don’t feel like a commuting woman from the 80s. Here are all my sneakers if anyone needs some inspo link here
The recent rain in New York has reunited me with my favorite trench coat that I got in Tokyo - and it makes every outfit better (even with sneakers!) If anyone is headed to Japan anytime soon DO NOT leave the country without a trench coat. Those gals in Japan know a good trench and there are so many amazing versions at every price point. My trench is from this store called Public Tokyo link here and if you can translate Japanese than maybe you can get one shipped to you! Otherwise, I found a listing for it on Mercari link here
I am headed to our place in Amagansett for the three day weekend and with temperatures below 60 I am packing ALL THE LAYERS. I would say my style leans classic and a bit preppy - so I was thrilled when I heard about the fisherman aesthetic.
I thrived during coastal grandma - but the fisherman aesthetic may be my mic drop moment. I always say that I am a 65 year old Northern Italian man stuck in a 43 year old female body. Living in the heart of Tribeca, I have somehow developed the sartorial sensibilities of a distinguished Italian gentleman who's spent decades perfecting his craft in the northern regions.
I remember walking around the town of Como a few years ago and saw all of these men in straight leg jeans, cashmere sweaters, fantastic slim boots, good scarves and sunglasses with a coordinating color frame. I felt like I was looking in the mirror.
Of course I love femininity - but I find myself gravitating to a uniform of well-worn classics regardless of the trends. I had a few other male looks in my collage for this week but my sister made me take them off. I am not sure why she thought a ninety year old Giorgio Armani in the PERFECT head to toe navy outfit would not resonate with you. If you must see it please direct message me - it is ELITE!
Here are some of my favorite things I am packing for the weekend and new finds I am thinking about adding to my cart.
Hermes Twilly link here
The chokehold that this Hermes Twilly styled into a long single braid has on me is outrageous. I am not sure I will ever wear my hair down again!
Parker Thatch Bandana link here
My phone must have heard me talking about scarves because my Pinterest algorithm is a tribute to every headscarf that Jackie O ever wore. Every time I save a pin it is like whack-a-mole and more photos show up. I like this one for summer because it is cotton and not so precious if sunscreen finds its way to it.
Moismont Canvas Tote link here
I was introduced to this brand during a trip to Merci in Paris. Merci is an independent concept boutique in the Marais that has a great curation of clothes and home goods. I love the color combo on this striped tote and the price is exactly where it should be for an easy summer carry all.
Cotton Crewneck Sweater link here
This is my favorite t shirt brand link here and I am swooning over their garment dyed violet blue sweater. La Ligne also makes a great cotton sweater link here
Khaite X Oliver Peoples link here
I know we have been talking a lot about oval sunglasses - BUT now that we are in our Jackie O headscarf era we need a glam cat eye.
Immodest Cotton Tote link here
This is a perfect long weekend tote with a zipper on top for extra privacy. There are other sizes and colors on the Immodest Cotton website link here - but the zip is only available at this dreamy Bellport Village boutique website.
Jamie Haller Buckle Sandal in Navy link here
I bought these sandals last year in the bare color link here and wore them to the ground. I got them resoled because they are that good - but the NAVY has stopped me in my tracks. If you buy them please let me know so I can live vicariously through you. At the very least get on Jamie’s email list for her private sales at the end of the season.
Ralph Lauren turquoise cuff link here
NO NOTES! except it is sold out so here are some close seconds. option 1 option 2
LL Bean Men’s Fisherman Sweater link here
I prefer the oversized fit of the Men’s but they also have it in Women's link here
Valentino Studded Sandals link here
Sadly I am still far away from wearing heels - but if I could I would buy these in a heartbeat. Love them for summer - and can picture them with a great blazer this fall.
Cara Brown Bone Initial Pendant link here
I met Cara in Newport this summer and her jewelry is a work of art. She is currently touring around Parisian flea markets so please follow her instagram for a glimpse at some of the most beautiful vintage pieces she has found.
Matteau Stripe Shirt link here
I love the width of this Matteau stripe - but this Ralph one is good too link here. Size up on the Ralph Lauren for a more oversized look. Here are all my button down picks link here
Livia Cetti Green Vase Florals link here
In the depths of the pandemic I found Livia’s website and bought her book and flower making kit. Nothing compares to the plants she makes - but it was a fun activity to do with my girls link here
Vintage Army Shirt Jacket link here
I love this guys entire outfit - and he didn’t suffer the same fate as Armani. You can recreate it with the above jacket, this white denim link here and pistachio t shirt link here
Here are all of my pics from this article plus some additional things I found this month link here
